Rod describes his work as being a forest shaper who works with tree huggers – people who are amazing at what they do but often too close to their work to recognise how the world is changing around them. Rod holds out the big picture and helps leaders understand and navigate change. He works alongside owners and executive leaders of high-growth businesses.
While Rod values all good enterprises, his passion is working with owner-led businesses where his expertise in culture, strategy and value makes a real difference. He is generally engaged when challenges emerge around succession, progression or crisis. From long-term client relationships to strategic advice and mentoring for short-term engagements, Rod helps leaders define the pathway and develop the capability needed to spearhead their next season of growth.
Rod is also a sought-after speaker for business events and is frequently called on as a strategic facilitator able to draw out the insights needed to drive effective discovery and change within organisations. In addition to his work through Successystems, Rod is a chairman, director and/or shareholder of Mr Rental, Plarre Foods, Dodgshun Medlin, REDD and Riverbank Stockfeeds – and was named Chairperson of the Year – Runner Up at CEO Magazine’s 2016 Executive of the Year Awards. Rod is also the Queensland Chairman of the Trans-Tasman Business Circle and an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Queensland’s Australian Centre for Sustainable Business and Development.
